An online store is more than a product catalogue. Indian customers need clear prices, familiar payment options, dependable delivery information and an easy way to ask for help. These basics should be planned before the store goes live.

Make payment choices clear at checkout

Select a payment gateway that supports the methods your customers use, such as UPI, cards and net banking. Explain when an order is confirmed and show a clear status after payment. Keep a process for failed or pending transactions so customers are not left guessing.

Compare gateway fees, settlement timelines, supported payment methods and integration needs before choosing a provider. Availability and terms can change, so confirm details directly with the provider before launch.

Plan product prices and tax display with care

Show the product price and any delivery charges before the customer places an order. Decide how discounts, shipping and applicable taxes will appear in the cart and invoice.

GST registration and invoicing requirements depend on the business and its sales. Ask your accountant or tax professional to confirm how your store should handle tax settings, invoices and records. The website should reflect that advice accurately.

Set delivery and returns expectations up front

Tell shoppers which locations you deliver to, the estimated dispatch or delivery window, shipping charges and what happens if a parcel is delayed. Keep the returns, cancellation and refund policy easy to find before checkout.

If some products have special delivery limits or return conditions, show them on the product page. Clear expectations can prevent avoidable support requests and help customers decide with confidence.

Design checkout for mobile first

Many shoppers will browse and buy on a phone. Keep forms short, use readable labels, make buttons easy to tap and avoid asking for information you do not need. Let customers review their order before payment.

Test the full journey on common mobile screen sizes: product selection, address entry, payment, confirmation email or message, and order support. A polished product page matters, but a reliable checkout completes the experience.
